IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING
Adapted from the Spring Feeling cocktail (Bartender’s Guide by Trader Vic, 1947)
MAKES 1 DRINK
The calendar may decree that spring starts on March 20th — but in our house, we mark the season with other, more idiosyncratic, rituals. For instance: this morning we tore through our closets, exchanging wool for cotton, packing away our corduroy until next October (and, yes, staring a bit horrifically at those forgotten bathing suits). And this evening at cocktail hour, we christened our shaker with gin after a long winter spent swadling ourselves in bourbon and rye. The bright mix of lemon and herby Galliano is a nod to the perky green spirit of the equinox. You could easily substitute Chartreuese or even a floral absinthe for the Galliano, of course, but don’t you dare drink it with a sweater on.
1 oz. Gin
1/2 oz. Galliano
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
Combine all three ingredients in a cocktail shaker over cracked ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a strip of lemon.
